Digital Marketing This Week – 575 Million LinkedIn Members, New Pinterest video format, New Facebook features and much more

1. LinkedIn Reaches 575 Million Members

LinkedIn announced recently that they have now more than 575 million members on their platform. The professional social network has also provided a geographic breakdown of its audience which lets us know exactly where the platform is most popular. India has the 3rd largest audience with 50+ million users, USA currently has the largest audience with 150+ million and China has 42+ million users.

2. Snapchat Q2 reports shows decline in users

This past week, the company reported a decline in daily active users from 191 million in Q1 to 188 million in Q2. This hit is mainly due to competitors like Facebook and Instagram of which the latter has been quite successful. Although the company has reported a 44% year-over-year increase in revenues. As per user base, looks like Snapchat has some work to do.

3. Pinterest Opens Wide-Format Videos to All Advertisers

Pinterest is rolling out wide-format videos to all advertisers. The videos are offered in both 16:9 and 1:1 aspect ratios. They’re four times bigger than standard ad videos. Pinterest put the new ad format in beta back in May. Only a small group of advertisers were able to use them at that time. During the testing period, analytics showed an increase in brand awareness and purchase intent among advertisers who used the wide-format videos.

4. Facebook Rolling out New features to Business Pages

Facebook is rolling out a bunch of updates for business Pages to make it easier for local businesses in particular to maximize their exposure on the platform, and to utilize customer word of mouth more effectively. And while adding the capacity to include direct recommendations, with images, is a big change, it’s the new tags which are likely to be the least understood, at least initially. Essentially, Facebook’s tags work like hashtags for businesses, with suggested tags generated based on keywords from past recommendations, or they can be manually added in.

5. Reddit Reports Higher Engagement Rates

According to some reports, Reddit is growing faster than other social media channels. One report showed that its active audience increased by 30% over the past six months. Additionally, We Are Social claims that the average Reddit user spends almost 16 minutes per day on the platform. That compares favourably with about 11 minutes for Facebook users and about six and a half minutes for Twitter users. Reddit currently has more than 330 million active users.
